Description

LGC, Biosearch Technologies is looking for a highly driven and analytical individual with a proven track record to join our team as Senior Bioinformatics Scientist. The individual would play a key role in expanding LGC’s molecular biology product portfolio. The successful candidate will become part of the newly restructured, exciting, and dynamic bioinformatics team that supports multiple divisions within LGC. The primary responsibility is to design and develop algorithms, tools, and pipelines for various PCR and next-generation sequencing (NGS) based applications.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Development of oligo design tools and pipelines for molecular techniques such as qPCR and NGS
  • Building algorithms and tools for NGS data analysis and new product development
  • Generate, optimize and maintain scripts for routine genomic data processing, curation, and storage
  • Provide customized data analysis support and training to the bench scientists and NGS services staff
  • Design high-throughput multiplexing genotyping panels for human, plants, animals, and microbes
  • Collaborate with product management, program management, NGS services, and molecular biology teams for new product development and custom NGS projects/services
  • Identify and define new product ideas or technologies; develop prototypes, conduct optimization studies, and present results to the leadership team
  • Attend meetings, conferences symposia, and seminars to promote LGC capabilities and to keep abreast of scientific/technological developments
  • Deliver high-quality product development documentation consistent with LGC’s quality systems
  • Conscientiously learn requirements of the ISO 13485 quality management system and diligently follow the terms of a quality contract
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualificiations

  • M.S. degree in bioinformatics, computer science, biostatistics, computational biology, genetics, or a related field with at least 5 years’ relevant experience; or Ph.D. degree in a related field with 1-3+ years’ relevant experience
  • Proficiency in low-level (C, C++) and high-level (Python, Perl) programming languages
  • Experience with LINUX-based operating systems and shell scripting
  • Excellent data analysis and visualization skills (Tableau, R, matplotlib, or similar)
  • Experience in the computational pipeline development and database management, as well as a solid background in genomics and statistics.
  • Deep understanding of NGS algorithms and data analysis tools
  • Excellent understanding of molecular biology and NGS products/methods, platform-specific capabilities, and data interpretation
  • Hands-on experience with analyzing and managing large-scale genomic data (e.g. whole genome sequencing, exome-seq, target enrichment, amplicon sequencing, RNA-seq, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience with genome alignment, mapping, variant calling and annotation tools
  • Familiarity with human, mammalian, plant and microbial genomics, and standard genomic databases (UCSC, ENSEMBL, NCBI), formats, and tools
  • Aptitude for complex problem-solving and continuous improvement, with the willingness to work in a rapidly growing matrix organization
  • Must demonstrate good professional judgment, reliability, and diligence
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
