Description

The SolidWorks Designer / Manufacturing Technician will assist the company’s engineering team by creating and revising solid models and generating, updating, and maintaining 2-D drawings. This employee will also be responsible for performing light assembly of scientific instruments. The position reports to the Director of Engineering.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Uses computer assisted design/drafting (SolidWorks)
  • Creates and revises engineering drawings (detail and assembly drawings)
  • Maintains an organized file system for engineering drawings
  • Performs light mechanical and electrical assembly of scientific instruments
  • Helps implement and maintain engineering department procedures, processes, and quality standards
  • Completes tasks as directed by manufacturing schedules with minimum supervision

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with sheet metal design
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, particularly machining
  • Ability to optimize design for manufacturing processes
  • Ability to generate detailed dimensioned 2-D drawings from solid models
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14.100 drawing standard
  • Familiarity with dimensioning and tolerance standards and GD&T
  • Responsible for maintaining revision level control of engineering documents
  • Ability to work directly with suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors; strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with use of hand tools used in light electromechanical assembly

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • Proficient with current versions of SolidWorks; SolidWorks certification strongly desired

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computers
  • Ability to stand and perform light assembly tasks at a workbench
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to collaborate with others to solve problems
  • Firm grasp of mathematics and fundamental principles of engineering
  • May assist with updating company procedures and processes
  • Other miscellaneous duties as required or assigned
  • Some travel may be required
